Long Day...

Here are some random photos from today. The first is kids at Bright Beginnings, a day care for homeless children where I might be volunteering. They were adorable. Then, Renee, Me, and Ariana on the Metro, some cute row houses in Adams Morgan, and some girls from the group on the Duke Ellington memorial bridge.

"The Pencil" and Snow!

Saturday morning Dominique and I braved the cold and wind to head up in the Washington Monument. The view was amazing, so here are some photos!
The last one is the view outside my window because we finally got some snow down here today.

Capitol, Gradens, Out to Dinner!

Today was a lot of fun! Early this afternoon, Dominique, Katie, Ariana, and I went to the Hill for a class assignment to speak with someone from our Congressman's office. Dominique and I met with Jim McGovern, who grew up in Worcester, and is now the district's rep. It was so great to speak with him. He was really interested in Main South, and we talked about the Boys and Girls Club, UPCS, safety issues, and triple deckers. The first thing you see when you walk into his office is a big poster of Worcester Triple Deckers! It definitely made me miss Clark!!
So aferwards, we went to the Botanical Gardens, which were especially enjoyable on such a cold day. Afterwards, we headed downtown for dinner at Capitol City Brew Company, which was inexpensive and had a great atmosphere.
Enjoy the photos!

MLK Weekend

So no photos for this update, but it was a great MLK weekend so I thought I'd archive it.
Yesterday Katie, Katie and I attended mass across the street at St. Ann's. It was a really nice service, and I realized how diverse DC is. All the folks up on the alter (priest, lector, and cantor) were of different ethnicities and none of them caucasian. It was really awesome.
Then a bunch of us went to Eastern Market, which is a great place to hang out on a warm Sunday. I got a Boz Scaggs record for Dad, and some home made tabouleh and pita for myself!
Today I got some resumes and cover letters out, and should be scheduling some interviews for later this week. In the afternoon, some of us from Transforming Communities went to the Capitol neighborhood in an attempt to attend an MLK day event at the Folger Shakespeare Library, but had gotten the time wrong and arrived as it was letting out. Oh well. So instead, we hit the Native American museum and had a really good time.
It was fun getting to know some more people from the seminar and seeing a side of the city the tour busses don't show you. Tomorrow- the real work starts.
Miss you all!!!

Natural History, Chinatown, and Postal Museum

Today being Saturday, Katie and I decided to hit the museums and enjoy the warm weather. Katie, by the way, is one of my new friends from the Transforming Communities program. So, we hopped on the Metro and found ourselves at the Smithsonian where we went to the Museum of Natural History, headed over to Chinatown for lunch, walked down to Union Station and the Postal Museum, wandered around the park outside the Capital and had a whole lot of fun.
The Postal Museum is, so far, the coolest museum I have ever been to.

First Days in DC!!

So here I am! DC is great so far. It's amazing to be living in the city.
American has a great campus, so much bigger than Clark! And different too.
Us Clarkies are a special breed.

So I've been spending a lot of time with the other Clarkies here. Mostly Dominique. Her and I and Bridget spent this afternoon down at the Mall and up to Foggy Bottom. Took a bunch of touristy photos and had an awesome time. Dinner tonight (Yup, Bon Appetit, but somewhat better) was with the three of us plus Ethan and Jeff. Ethan is a riot and the five of us were laughing loudly the entire time, and the only ones in the cafe making much noise at all. Making a ruckus in true Clark tradition, of course!

So here are some photos of the first few days. Enjoy!!
